Kaizer Chiefs wave goodbye to SEVENTH player in sweeping squad overhaul

Kaizer Chiefs have offloaded their seventh player as a mass clear-out continues at Naturena ahead of the new season.

Siyabonga Gumede is the latest Amakhosi product to leave Naturena.

FROM NATURENA TO AZERBAIJAN AND PSL RIVALS

McCarthy was the first player to leave Amakhosi.

The defender joined Azerbaijan Premier League champions Sabah FC before Fernando Da Cruz was appointed as Kaizer Chiefs’ new head coach.

Thereafter, George Matlou and Happy Mashiane were released, becoming the second and third players to leave Naturena.

Thereafter, Matlou completed a move to Stellenbosch FC. Ironically, Mashiane also trained with the Cape Winelands-based outfit, but did not do enough to earn a first-team contract under coach Gavin Hunt. As a result, he remains a free agent.

Rwandan goalkeeper Fiacre Ntwari then joined newly promoted Betway Premiership side Kruger United on a season-long loan, where he is expected to enjoy more regular game time.

Next, Tashreeq Morris completed his move to Durban City in one of the worst-kept secrets of the transfer window after the news broke before the deal was officially confirmed.

More recently, former Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Gastón Sirino became the second ex-Amakhosi player to reunite with former Kaizer Chiefs coach Khalil Ben Youssef at Durban City. Youssef has now brought both Morris and Sirino to the KwaZulu-Natal outfit.

Finally, Kaizer Chiefs academy graduate Siyabonga Gumede’s departure from Naturena has largely flown under the radar. The talented DStv Diski Challenge captain has reportedly joined fellow KwaZulu-Natal side Richards Bay ahead of the 2026/27 Betway Premiership season.
