Daughters Are Not Guests

Because a daughter’s home shouldn’t expire with marriage

Here’s the story, open for my friends. 🔑

I want a house of my own.
Not my husband’s flat, not my father’s, mine.
A little home that belongs to me, where I can go when I’m devastated.
Where no one can threaten me, where I feel safe..
where I don’t have to do things just to stay there.

Don’t mistake me, please.. I’m really grateful to god for giving me a father who loves me.
But even he, unknowingly, tells me sometimes to leave.
And when he doesn’t, society does..
Society asks him to get me married,
to find me a house, as if I’m a guest who must soon leave.

But my brothers?
No one tells them to leave.
They live there because it’s their home.
It’s mine too, but only in words.

And when I marry, will I get a home then?
No.
It’ll again be “my home” only in sayings..
and only if my husband and my new family remain happy.
After all, they earned the money, so they got the house.
