Annerie Dercksen Reflects on Special Performance as Proteas Prepare for Final ODI

After a standout display against Pakistan, Annerie Dercksen looks ahead to the final ODI with World Cup qualification points and a powerful cause at stake.

Durban, South Africa (01 March 2026) – Annerie Dercksen has described her recent Player of the Match performance against Pakistan Women’ as a rewarding opportunity to contribute meaningfully to the team, as the Proteas Women prepare for their final one-day international this weekend.

The all-rounder played a key role in South Africa’s victory earlier this week when the Proteas confirmed yet another series win by nine wickets.

“I would say by far one of my best performances. I was fortunate to take up some wickets and contribute to the team.”

Her quick-fire burst, including 24 runs in a decisive passage helped steer the game South Africa’s way. However, she explained that it was all part of the team’s plan.

“We know the power that we have… I saw if we set it up for the end there, the team would ensure that we get to a big total.”

Beyond the performance itself, last week carried personal meaning for her as the Proteas Women returned to Bloemfontein. A city that played an important role in her cricket journey.

“That’s where I played my first Division One cricket game for the provincial side. It was very special to be back there.”

From playing cricket in the backyard with her brother to representing her country, Annerie still holds onto that childlike joy for the game.

Now, attention shifts to today’s third and final ODI in Durban, which will also be marked as Black Day to raise awareness around gender-based violence in South Africa.

“It’s not just an international game, but also more special because of the meaning behind it… hopefully we can create some awareness and get people into the stands.”

With World Cup qualification points on the line, the Proteas are determined to finish the series on a high.

“Every game we play counts. We have to make sure that we don’t lose any points there and get as many as we can.”

The third and final ODI is scheduled to get underway at 10am in Durban on Sunday.
