This week, I received what appeared on the surface to be two extremely promising emails regarding a recent book of mine that was published (e.g., Aalai, 2026). Imagine my surprise when one of my favorite authors—who I have never met before—sent me a glowing email about this newest book of mine, full of personal anecdotes and reasons why she was drawn to the text. After recovering from the surprise of seeing her name in my inbox, it didn’t take me long to surmise that the message I had received was not, in fact, from the author Kristin Hannah, but was entirely AI-generated (this would later be confirmed by a response from her PR team, when I forwarded them the suspicious email).
