Postpartum Prevention Plan: Time Outside, Exercise, Socialize
Psychology Today | 05.11.2026 02:17Postpartum depression and anxiety are major issues that affect new caregivers. Many new parents focus on the birth plan to prepare for this major stage of life. But what I find in my work as a clinical psychologist is that new families really benefit from a postpartum plan as well. What are the needs, relationships, and activities that will help you maintain your well-being postpartum? Knowing these will promote your child’s well-being as well. I developed the following mnemonic to capture core helpful practices that are supported by research: Time Outside, Exercise, and Socialize. These three practices can provide a daily structure that maximizes joy during a time that is challenging but also fulfilling.
