Arguably the most independent person of modern times was a man nicknamed Man of the Hole, Man of the Hole was the last surviving member of a tribe in the Amazon rainforest, and he lived completely and entirely on his own.
Everything he needed to live, he got from the forest, which means he fended for himself, gathered his own food, his own resources, literally, he did everything himself.
He was so independent that if every person on Earth died but him, he would have continued living exactly as he had been. Nothing would changed for him.
Considering this, it would be fair to say that he was dependent on no one but himself.
Except any who said that would be wrong, as independent as he may at first seem he was actually not independent. Far from it. For example, he was dependent completely and entirely upon the Brazilian authorities for protection.
