  • MKP second Deputy President Tony Yengeni called a Saturday meeting at Beverly Hills in Umhlanga to discuss ousting Premier Ntuli.
  • EFF KwaZulu-Natal spokesperson Chris Msibi said the meeting was cancelled because EFF leader Julius Malema and other leaders attended funerals.

A special meeting between the MKP and NFP to discuss a second motion to remove KwaZulu-Natal Premier Thami Ntuli collapsed on Saturday because EFF leader Julius Malema could not attend.

MKP second Deputy President Tony Yengeni called the meeting and invited NFP President Ivan Barnes. Malema was also invited to the meeting at Beverly Hills in Umhlanga, north of Durban.

EFF KwaZulu-Natal spokesperson Chris Msibi told Scrolla.Africa the meeting was cancelled because the whole EFF leadership was attending funerals.

“The CIC couldn’t attend the meeting because he was at the funeral in Gauteng while our Secretary General Marshal Dlamini was attending another funeral in Donnybrook near Bulwer of our councillor who passed away after a short illness. That is why the meeting was cancelled,” Msibi said.

Rumours spread on Saturday that the meeting collapsed because of differences between MKP Secretary General Dr Bongani Mncwango and Yengeni. It was rumoured that Mncwango had distanced himself from the meeting. The MKP refuted those claims.

The MKP is pushing ahead with another motion to remove Premier Ntuli with help from the NFP and EFF.

NFP President Barnes wants the government of provincial unity (GPU) to collapse so the IEC can call new elections in KwaZulu-Natal. Barnes said the NFP will not be part of a government built on corruption.

Barnes demanded that if the IFP and ANC want the NFP and its one seat to stay in the GPU, they must fire Premier Ntuli, MEC Nomagugu Simelane-Mngadi, MEC Sipho Hlomuka, MEC Siboniso Duma and NFP MEC Mbali Shinga.
