Amapiano star DBN Gogo recently shared one of her biggest career regrets, revealing that she was originally supposed to be part of the global smash hit “Mnike.” The DJ and producer opened up about the missed opportunity during an interview with SlikourOnLife, where she reflected on how the song eventually became one of the biggest Amapiano tracks in the world.
“Mnike,” produced by Tyler ICU and featuring Tumelo.za, Nandipha808, Ceeka RSA and DJ Maphorisa, became a global phenomenon following its release. The song dominated charts, took over social media platforms, and quickly became one of the most recognizable Amapiano songs internationally. However, DBN Gogo has now revealed that she was once invited to be part of the record before it reached the world.
Speaking in the interview, the DJ shared that Tyler ICU had actually sent her the song during its early stages while seeking her opinion and possibly including her in the project.
“Mnike, I’m gonna tell you now, fun fact, Tyler sent me that song. I can’t even tell you what happened. It was also in the thing of sending a lot of music and he’s like, ‘Gogo, what do you think of this? Let me know, I want you to be part of it.’ Regrets, regrets!” she explained.
DBN Gogo admitted that missing the chance to be involved in the record remains one of her biggest “what if” moments in the industry. Like many artists who receive large volumes of music from collaborators, the opportunity simply slipped by at the time.
Despite the regret, the DJ made it clear that she holds nothing but respect and happiness for Tyler ICU and the success of the track. She praised the song’s global impact and acknowledged how important it has been for the Amapiano movement.
“Congratulations to him. That’s the biggest Amapiano song in the world, I think, still to this day,” she added.
“Mnike” played a major role in pushing Amapiano even further onto the international stage, gaining massive streams and becoming a viral sensation across platforms like TikTok and YouTube. The song’s success introduced the genre to new audiences around the world and cemented Tyler ICU’s place among the genre’s leading producers.
While DBN Gogo may have missed the opportunity to be part of the hit, she continues to play a major role in the global growth of Amapiano through her performances, productions, and collaborations.
Her honest reflection on the moment has resonated with many fans, showing that even successful artists experience missed opportunities along the way. Nevertheless, DBN Gogo remains one of the key figures helping take Amapiano from South Africa to the world.
