Aliko Dangote sat among more than 30 heads of state at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre this week as French President Emmanuel Macron unveiled a $27 billion investment package and asked Africa's wealthy class to do something unusual: invest in France. The line landed at the inaugural Africa Forward Summit on May 11-12, 2026, France's first heads-of-state gathering hosted in an English-speaking African country. Choosing Nairobi over a traditional Francophone capital was itself a statement, an opening signal that Paris is pivoting outside its old sphere of influence.
