When Social Media Defines Toxicity

I find myself scrolling through social media from time to time, especially when I’m bored. One trend that consistently catches my attention is the growing conversation around the difference between toxic behaviors and trauma-related behaviors. What concerns me, however, is how often these terms are used interchangeably. I see people describing behaviors rooted in trauma as simply toxic, and quite honestly, I cringe when I see that substitution because the distinction matters. Not every unhealthy behavior is toxic, and not every difficult behavior is intentional or rooted in malice. In my experience, what appears to be toxic behavior can sometimes be a response shaped by unresolved trauma.
