High spending Spurs’ slump continues

Liverpool came from behind twice to draw 2-2 with Nottingham Forest at Anfield, before Tottenham Hotspur suffered a second straight Premier League defeat under Roberto De Zerbi.

Forest looked set for a third successive win at Anfield when Dan Ndoye put them ahead and Morgan Gibbs-White netted the second from the penalty spot.

Alexander Isak pulled one back for Liverpool before Munoz rescued Iraola’s troops with a late equaliser.

The Reds boss admitted his side were poor early on, but continued to be optimistic ahead of the transfer window’s conclusion next week.

Liverpool could soon be boosted by Bradley Barcola, with a reported £106 million (± R2.3 billion) deal with Paris Saint-Germain close.

At the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Newcastle beat Spurs 2-0 to give new boss Matthias Jaissle his first Premier League win.

Anthony Elanga opened the scoring in the 62nd minute before Yoane Wissa sealed it, leaving Tottenham without a goal in their opening two league games for the first time since 1992-93.

Despite spending over £300 million after narrowly avoiding relegation last season, De Zerbi’s side have now lost to both Brentford and Newcastle.

In Saturday’s other games, Bournemouth and Everton played out a 1-1 draw while Hull City left it late to beat Coventry City 1-0 at the CBA Arena.

On Friday, Erling Haaland netted twice in a 4-1 victory away at Crystal Palace for Manchester City.

Sunday’s action sees Chelsea host Brighton, Leeds facing Brentford, Sunderland taking on Aston Villa and Manchester United up against Ipswich Town.
