A strong, shallow earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 6.6 struck in the Loyalty Islands region of New Caledonia at 21:23 UTC on Sept. 25, 2026, the U.S. Geological Survey reported. That was 5:23 p.m. EDT on Sept. 25 and 8:23 a.m. local time on Sept. 26 in New Caledonia. The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said at 21:30 UTC that, based on all available data, there was no tsunami threat from the earthquake, The Watchers reported.
