The 2026 Hollywoodbets Durban July was not only about horse racing, but also about unforgettable fashion. South African celebrities arrived dressed to impress, embracing this year’s “Country Allure” theme with stunning cowboy-inspired outfits, sparkling accessories, bold designs and meaningful fashion statements.
Held on Saturday, 4 July 2026, at the Hollywoodbets Greyville Racecourse in Durban, South Africa, the landmark 130th edition of Africa’s premier horse racing and social event attracted some of Mzansi’s biggest stars, who turned the event into a glamorous fashion showcase.
Media personality and content creator Lasizwe made a stylish return to the Durban July after several years away. He wore an all-white bedazzled cowboy outfit complete with a matching cowboy hat, perfectly capturing the event’s theme.
Sharing the meaning behind his look on Instagram, he wrote, “I never left the story. I just waited for the right chapter. Back at the Durban July after years away. Inspired by the bedazzled cowboy, a reminder that the wildest thing you can wear is confidence.”
In another post, he reflected on his return, saying, “Five years later… I came back. I didn’t return just to attend the Durban July. I came back because I finally had a story worth wearing. Inspired by a bedazzled cowboy, this look is about freedom, reinvention and taking up space without apology. Sometimes disappearing isn’t the end of the story. Sometimes it’s where the transformation begins. Durban July… I missed you.”
Reality TV star and media personality Kefilwe Mabote also stole the spotlight with not one, but two eye-catching outfits.
Her first look featured a beautiful feather dress that celebrated South Africa’s natural beauty. Explaining the inspiration behind it, she wrote, “She is the spirit of the countryside… where dawn breaks over rolling fields and birds rise effortlessly into the African sky. Cloaked in layers of delicate feathers, she embodies the quiet majesty of South Africa’s rural landscape. For her second appearance, Kefilwe changed into a breathtaking all-white cowboy-inspired outfit designed by iconic fashion designer Gert-Johan Coetzee. The sparkling look featured dazzling diamonds and a modern take on the Country Allure theme.
She shared, “Country Allure, reimagined. A celebration of craftsmanship, strength and modern femininity. Inspired by The Winged Victory of Samothrace, this bespoke creation by @gertjohancoetzee embodies triumph, resilience and grace, where sculptural couture meets the untamed spirit of the frontier. Actress, musician and reality TV star Boity Thulo also made a memorable appearance with a gown inspired by her ancestors and heritage.
She wrote on Instagram, “A love letter to the land of my ancestors. To every woman and man whose courage became my inheritance. To sovereignty that cannot be bought because it was born into the earth beneath our feet.”
In another heartfelt message, she added, “A tribute to the land of my ancestors. The rivers that carried us. The soil that remembers us. The legacy that lives within us. Country Allure. May I honour my ancestors not only by remembering them, but by living fully in the freedom they dreamed of.”
Other Mzansi celebrities who also attended the glamorous event included Sarah Langa, Thando Thabethe, Thembi Seete, Faith Nketsi and many more, all bringing their own unique interpretation of this year’s Country Allure theme.
