Legendary South African artist, DJ and record producer Oskido is feeling grateful after being honoured with the Order of Ikhamanga and receiving a special surprise celebration from his family and close friends.

The music icon recently took to Instagram to share moments from a surprise dinner that was organised in his honour after President Cyril Ramaphosa awarded him the prestigious Order of Ikhamanga.

Oskido gave his followers a glimpse into the memorable evening, which was attended by several well-known personalities from the entertainment industry and beyond. Guests arrived dressed in black, creating an elegant atmosphere for the celebration. The evening featured good food, great music and a joyful atmosphere as friends and family gathered to celebrate his achievement.

Among those who attended were Zakes Bantwini, DJ Zinhle, Thembi Seete, Mandla N, Theo Kgosinkwe and Julius Malema.

Reflecting on the evening, Oskido shared a heartfelt message on Instagram. “A few nights ago, dear friends and family came together for a surprise dinner in my honour and I looked around at faces from an industry l’ve walked with for over 30 years.

When President Ramaphosa honoured me with the Order of Ikhamanga, the citation didn’t say it was for being famous, or for being talented. It said it was for selflessly including others in this industry.

That’s the recognition I carry most proudly because the gift was never meant to shine on me, but through me, onto others. To everyone who believed in me, and everyone l’ve had the privilege to believe in: this is ours.”

On Tuesday, 19 May 2026, Oskido was officially awarded the Order of Ikhamanga. To mark the occasion, he shared a video featuring some of South Africa’s biggest music stars, including DJ Zinhle, Kwesta, Black Coffee and Berita. In the video, they spoke about the impact he has had on their careers and thanked him for helping them get opportunities in the music industry.

In the caption, Oskido wrote, “Deeply grateful to President Ramaphosa and the Presidency for this honour the Order of Ikhamanga. But I receive this on behalf of all of us. My family, Kalawa Jazmee, DJs United, every pioneer, every creative, every believer. We lift each other and God opens the doors. This is only the beginning.”

In another post, Oskido shared a letter expressing his appreciation for the honour.

“Receiving the Order of Ikhamanga from President Cyril Ramaphosa is not just my honour it is ours. This journey was never walked alone, It was built through your love, support, prayers, belief, and the shared experiences we have created together through the music and the culture over the years.”
