With more than 360,000 identity documents sitting uncollected at Home Affairs offices nationwide, the Department of Home Affairs has extended operating hours for the final voter registration weekend, urging South Africans to collect their IDs or apply for Smart ID cards before registering to vote in the 2026 local government elections.
