THE FUSE

Young piggery farmers from seven municipalities in the Gert Sibande District gathered in Ermelo for an accredited Pig Management Training session designed to improve productivity and open market opportunities. The NQF level 3 certification course focused on equipping farmers with modern farming practices while addressing key areas such as pig housing, breeding, nutrition, biosecurity, and disease management. Participants gained both theoretical knowledge and practical skills to help transition from traditional farming methods to more efficient, commercially viable operations. The training emphasized sustainable approaches that increase herd health, reduce losses, and improve overall profitability. By participating in this program, young farmers are better prepared to compete in local and regional markets while contributing to the district’s agricultural growth.
