The Eastern Cape province continues to strengthen its position as a global leader in wool and mohair production with a new initiative aimed at supporting local farmers. MEC of Agriculture Nonceba Kontsiwe recently handed over infrastructure valued at R1.6 million to farmers in Qhimirha Village. This investment is designed to help subsistence farmers improve the quality of their wool and mohair, which is critical for maintaining the province’s reputation in international markets. The Eastern Cape supplies nearly half of the world’s mohair, making quality improvements a key factor for economic growth and market competitiveness. The initiative underscores the provincial government’s commitment to empowering small-scale farmers and promoting sustainable agricultural practices.
