Betty’s Bay Baboons Back for a Pool Party Seven Years Later!

Good Things Guy | 11.02.2026 15:30

Still the holiday we’re all dreaming of! Just three things missing – towels, snacks and mimosas…

Western Cape, South Africa (11 February 2026) – Baboons – mostly Chacma baboons – live across the Western Cape and are part of the natural biodiversity there. But because much of their original low-lying habitat has been transformed into suburbs and farms, many troops now often end up wandering into urban spaces searching for food and shelter.

Sadly, that often brings them into conflict with people, and they’re seen as a nuisance.

In the same breath, there’s a growing group of residents who choose coexistence over conflict.

Instead of trying to push them out, they’ve adapted and accepted that occasionally, troops are going to pass through and sometimes, they’re going to take a dip in the pool…

In 2019, a video of two baboons spread like wildfire online. The pair had decided to have a dip in a pool at a guest house overlooking the sea. Prime spot. The video is adorable – they splashed about like a pool day had been long overdue.

Why are we bringing that up now, seven years later?

The owners of that very same guest house recently shared a new video of two VIP guests who enjoyed an early morning dip in the pool. Look familiar?

We’re LOLing at the audio, too – two enthusiastic bulldogs, keen to welcome their slightly hairier-than-usual guests.

The video has circulated for just over a week now, and has already amassed over 4.9 million views!

“They did book the place – they’ve lived there since the beginning of time!” shared on commenter.

“Thanks for being kind to them, and letting them cool off. You are awesome!,” wrote another.

“If that house is on Airbnb I’ll rent it on my next trip to South Africa, Baboons and all.” joked another.
