South African rapper, reality TV star and businesswoman Nadia Nakai recently shared a frustrating experience with her followers after being charged for a beauty treatment she says she never requested.
Taking to TikTok, Nadia opened up about a recent lash appointment that left her confused and questioning whether customers should be charged for services they did not ask for.
According to Nadia, she had booked an appointment specifically to get her lashes done. Since she had not visited the salon for a long time, she was required to pay a deposit before her appointment.
“I went to go do my lashes and I haven’t been there for a a very long time. When I got my appointment she was like you need to pay your deposit to secure your booking. Completely get it, I did it,” she explained.
Everything seemed normal until she noticed something unusual happening during the appointment.
“I got there and she’s doing my lashes and then, all of a sudden, I can feel something on my eyebrows because eyebrow lamination’s got a strong smell. So I ask her, I’m like ‘What is that? What are you doing?’ she’s like ‘oh, I’m laminating your eyebrows.’ I’m like oh cool thanks, I’ve never laminated my eyebrows, but it wasn’t a service I had asked for. I just wanted my lashes done. Even the booking was for my lashes.”
The situation became more surprising when it was time to pay.
“When I’m getting ready to pay the bill. I see the bill is R1100, which is what I didn’t even anticipate because I thought I’d already paid the R600 for the booking. So I was like it’s probably going to be R600 that I’m paying for my lashes.”
Wanting clarity, Nadia asked about the pricing. “So I say to her, ‘your lashes are R1500?’ So your lashes actually cost R1100 plus the R600 I paid for the deposit?” Then she says, ‘the lashes are R1200 and then the lamination is R500’.”
Although she paid the amount, Nadia admitted she was left feeling uncomfortable about the situation.
“So I paid it and just left. But in my head, I didn’t ask for lamination. You did it. I thought it was ‘oh try this, next time do lamination’.”
The reality star questioned whether it was fair for a business to add and charge for a service without first getting the customer’s approval.
“What I’m asking is, if it’s something I didn’t ask for as a customer, I didn’t ask for the lamination, you just proceed to do it while I was prepped and my eyes were closed. I didn’t even know what you were doing and I had to ask. You do an added service that I didn’t request and then charge me for it?”
Nadia went on to explain that eyebrow lamination is not something she would normally choose for herself.
“I wouldn’t have asked for it because I don’t laminate my eyebrows. I hardly have hair on my eyebrows to laminate. To charge me for something I didn’t ask for is a little weird.”
