When Kenneth Saffold walked into Goldman Sachs as a fresh MBA graduate from the Wharton School, private credit was not yet the industry buzzword it would eventually become. Most of Wall Street was fixated on public markets. The idea that a Black fund manager from Atlanta would one day raise nearly $400 million to invest in underserved American businesses, backed by some of the world's largest institutional names, was not a story anyone was telling yet.
