If it’s not an academic paper or a pay-to-access article, then the use of AI doesn’t negate the credibility of that message.
We live in an era where technology is reshaping our lives at a remarkable pace, AI standing out as a transformative force. While some question the credibility of messages generated with the aid of AI, it’s essential to recognise that its role is not designed to undermine authenticity but enhance accessibility and efficiency, especially for people like me disabled by chronic illness who face daily challenges. Personally, I draw the line where academia and pay-to-view content are concerned.
For people like me living with chronic illness, every day is a battle against fatigue and limitations. Time and energy become precious resources; often, mundane tasks feel insurmountable. This is where AI becomes a vital ally. By streamlining processes, automating repetitive tasks, and providing quick access to information, AI allows me to conserve my energy for what truly matters.
My frustrations stem from societal expectations of perfection. Ableism – a pervasive belief that prioritises able-bodied people – often marginalises disabled people like me. This pressure to conform to the ideals of the able-bodied leaves many of us feeling invisible and adds to our exhaustion.
Moreover, the impatience of a fast-paced, mask-wearing (oh the irony) society, where instant gratification is the norm, can be disheartening. Too many adults seem to have forgotten the value of patience and understanding, often demanding immediate results without a single thought for those of us with underlying challenges. This attitude is alienating for those of us who need time and support to achieve goals.
With the continuous integration of AI into our daily lives, we can accept this technology with a mindset of responsibility and an understanding that embracing AI does not mean we relinquish control of our lives or compromise on our authenticity. But rather, present ourselves with an opportunity to harness its capabilities for a more inclusive and understanding world, a world where everyone, regardless of circumstances, can thrive.
