For the Spanish that equates to roughly €43.7 million.

Having entered the tournament ranked third in the FIFA rankings, La Roja are now the world’s No 1-ranked nation.

SPANISH ROUTE TO THE TOP OF THE WORLD

Spain began their campaign with a surprise 0-0 draw against African underdogs Cape Verde.

Following that result, many pundits and supporters wrote off Spain’s chances.

However, just as they did 16 years ago, a slow start proved to be the catalyst for success.

At the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa, Spain lost 1-0 to Switzerland in their opening match before recovering to lift their first world title.

This time around, despite being held by one of the tournament’s lowest-ranked nations in their opener, Spain responded emphatically.

They thrashed Saudi Arabia 4-0 before edging Uruguay 1-0 to finish top of Group H with seven points.

In the Round of 32, Spain swept aside Australia 3-0.

They then defeated Portugal 1-0 in a fiercely contested Round of 16 clash before overcoming Belgium 2-1 in the quarter-finals.

Notably, that was the only match in which Spain conceded a goal throughout the tournament.

Next, La Roja stunned pre-tournament favourites France with a commanding 2-0 victory in the semi-finals, neutralising a side featuring Kylian Mbappé and Ousmane Dembélé.

Finally, Spain outclassed defending champions Argentina from the opening whistle. In fact, Lionel Messi and his team-mates failed to register a single shot on target during normal time.

Torres struck the decisive winner early in the second period of extra-time to secure Spain’s second FIFA World Cup title, a place in football history and a record-breaking $50 million prize.

Additionally, they were awarded $1.5 to cover travel preperations. This amount was given to all 48 participating nations by FIFA at FIFA World Cup 2026.

Therefore, Spain banked $51.5 million in total. In South African terms, that equates to almost R850 million.
