Government support continues to play an important role in strengthening small agricultural businesses across South Africa, particularly those working to improve local food production and create sustainable livelihoods. In Leandra, under the Govan Mbeki Municipality, Maphanga Business Enterprises has received a significant boost through the Department’s Masibuyele Esibayeni Programme. The enterprise was awarded 100 layer chickens, poultry feed and essential medication to help expand its egg production operations. This support marks the beginning of a new chapter for the business after a lengthy application and assessment process. It also demonstrates how targeted agricultural development programmes can empower small enterprises while contributing to food security and local economic growth.
