The world got Tyla first. South Africa gets the finale

You know how popstars are always embarking on “world tours” that completely ignore Africa? Well, homegrown popiano princess Tyla isn’t about to do that to us.

On Monday the 24-year-old announced a 34-date world tour supporting her second album, A-POP, beginning in Paris in October. From there, she will pass through cities including London, Amsterdam, New York, Toronto, Chicago and Los Angeles before ending with three African shows: Lagos, Cape Town and, finally, her hometown of Johannesburg in January 2027.

The world met Tyla through Water, the 2023 song that escaped TikTok, took over global charts and won the first Grammy Award for Best African Music Performance. Since then, she has become a Met Gala regular, performed at Coachella and collected a second Grammy for single Push 2 Start. In just a few years, she became an international pop star while teaching overseas interviewers South African slang and repeatedly explaining South African coloured identity.

Her highly anticipated sophomore album A*POP released on 24 July with 14 tracks spanning pop, R&B, amapiano and Afrobeats, plus collaborations with Swedish pop star Zara Larsson and South African acts MaWhoo, Babalwa M and Liquideep.

The album is currently number one on the country’s Apple Music albums chart, while Fairytale, featuring Liquideep, and That Girl are among the platform’s most-played songs locally.

Her last two tour dates will see her perform at Cape Town’s Green Point Track on Monday, 4 January 2027 and at Johannesburg’s Nasrec Expo Centre on Saturday, 9 January 2027. Ticket Prices for both range from R895 for general standing to R1,695 for Golden Circle.
