Adams Mission: EFF activist Celani Zungu, who died after being struck by a water tanker during a protest over water shortages, is being remembered as a hero who fought for his community.

Democratic Alliance leaders visited Zungu’s family in Adams Mission on Tuesday to offer condolences and promised to stand with them in their fight for justice.

The party’s eThekwini mayoral candidate, Haniff Hoosen, blamed the municipality’s ongoing water crisis for the tragedy.

“Democratic Alliance calls for accountability over eThekwini’s ongoing failure to provide reliable water services. Today, I visited the Zungu family in Adams Mission along with Democratic Alliance KwaZulu-Natal Leader Sithembiso Ngema, to pay our respects following the tragic death of Celani Zungu, who lost his life after being struck by a water tanker on Monday,” said Hoosen.

Pietermaritzburg: The African National Congress KwaZulu-Natal Legislature Caucus has congratulated the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Education after it received an unqualified audit opinion.

The party praised Education MEC Sipho Hlomuka and the department, saying the audit showed strong financial management and responsible use of public money.

The African National Congress said the achievement reflects improved governance and a commitment to delivering services to the people of KwaZulu-Natal.

Richards Bay: KwaZulu-Natal Premier Thami Ntuli has challenged academics, innovators and researchers to help shape government policies across Africa.

Speaking at the 10th Imbali International Conference in Richards Bay, Ntuli said intellectuals should move from simply analysing problems to helping governments solve them.

He said coalition governments are becoming the future of politics in South Africa and across the continent, adding that experts should use their knowledge to strengthen decision making and improve governance.
