Horrific N1 crash claims 5 lives: Driver arrested for reckless driving

(The Post News)- A devastating collision on the N1-25 near Boekenhout in the Waterberg District claimed the lives of five people on Wednesday, 1 April. The accident occurred at around 7:45am, it involved three vehicles: a Renault light motor vehicle, a Ford light delivery vehicle, and a Toyota light delivery vehicle.
Preliminary reports indicate that the driver of the Renault allegedly performed an illegal U-turn on the freeway, resulting in a head-on collision. According to SAPS, the driver was under the influence of alcohol and drugs were also found in the vehicle.
Tragically, two male drivers and three passengers from one of the vehicles died at the scene. Two additional passengers sustained serious injuries and were transported to FH Odendaal Hospital for medical treatment.
MEC Mathye sends condolences to those affected by the crash
The Limpopo Department of Transport and Community Safety, through MEC Violet Mathye, expressed shock at the incident and extended heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased. MEC Mathye also wished a speedy recovery to those injured in the crash. “This tragedy serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of reckless and impaired driving,” she said.
The driver responsible for the crash has been arrested and is awaiting further investigation.
