South Africa and Montenegro go head-to-head in a high-stakes World Group II play-off this weekend.

Pretoria, South Africa (06 February 2026) – A sold-out Irene Country Club will be the place to be as the Renault South Africa Davis Cup team hosts Montenegro in a crucial World Group II play-off this weekend, with both nations fighting to keep their Davis Cup momentum alive.

Led by captain Pietie Norval, the South African squad heads into the tie in good health and confident spirits after a focused preparation on home soil. During a pre-draw press conference, Pietie confirmed that all players are fit and available, a welcome boost ahead of a demanding weekend of tennis.

“Our preparation has gone really well, and it’s encouraging to have the full team healthy and ready for the challenge.”

South Africa will be eager to bounce back after their most recent Davis Cup outing, where they suffered a 4–1 defeat against Morocco. That result makes this weekend’s tie an important opportunity to reset and push forward in the competition.

Montenegro, however, arrives in Centurion with strong recent form. The visitors have won four of their last five ties in their group. Captained by Rrezart Cungu, the Montenegrin team features Petar Jovanovic, Simon Knezevic, Aleksa Krivokapic and Danilo Raicevic, all of whom have settled quickly since arriving in South Africa.

Top-ranked Montenegrin player Jovanovic said the team has adapted well to the local conditions. While Phillip Henning, the team’s highest-ranked player, returns to action after missing the Morocco tie through injury.

With World Group II status on the line, both teams are expected to push hard across singles and doubles matches. Tickets for the tie are officially sold out, ensuring a lively home crowd.

Missed out on a ticket? Well, be sure to catch the action LIVE on SABC 3 on Saturday, 7 February from 11h00 and Sunday, 8 February from 10h00.
