My last article on Neuroplasticity surprised me. Thousands of people read it, shared it, and wrote to me about how neuroplastic habits helped them feel a little more in control of their own minds.
It feels exciting. Isn’t it?
But one message that really touched me was, “Thanks for sharing, Rabinder. Now I understand why my brain skips hard things, and how to gently navigate it instead of fighting it.”
So I will talk more about something deeper.
No, not about habits, but about the science of why your brain pushes hard things away, and surprising ways to trick your brain into cooperation.
In order to function at our best capacity and also productivity, we have to be in harmony with our thoughts.
Most of the time, we blame ourselves, our brains for not being disciplined. We bash ourselves. We call ourselves lazy sloths, unmotivated, and directionless.
But neuroscience tells us that your brain is not your enemy. It just hates discomfort and uncertainty. Hard things feel dangerous, but in reality are not.
