Actress Lerato Marabe has opened up about growing up on screen after spending more than 14 years on the popular SABC 1 soapie Skeem Saam. Lerato plays the role of Pretty Seakamela, a character she has portrayed since the show first started in 2011. She joined the cast at just 11 years old and has remained one of the show’s most loved stars.

During an interview with Andile Ncube on SABC Sports, Andile spoke about how South Africans have watched Lerato grow up on television. From being a young girl on the show to now preparing for her wedding storyline, viewers have followed Pretty Seakamela’s journey for years.

Agreeing with Andile, Lerato shared how connected she feels to viewers because many people feel like they watched her grow up. She said, “Teah, especially the parents, they feel like they’ve raised me. I am a little sister to a lot of people. I am an older sister to a lot of people, that’s just who I am.”

Lerato also spoke warmly about her onscreen love interest, Lehasa Maphosa, played by Cedric Fourie. She praised him for helping her grow as an actress over the years.

“My onscreen husband what I’m going to say is he has helped me grow a lot in terms of my craft. He’s taught me a lot when it come to professionalism, the business of acting. He has helped me grow into a lot of things. He might not see it but when he watches this he will know,” she said.

Pretty and Lehasa’s love story has become one of the biggest storylines on Skeem Saam. The couple already celebrated their traditional wedding after Lehasa paid lobola in September 2025. Their white wedding is now set to air on 20 and 21 May 2026.

Lerato admitted that filming the wedding scenes made her emotional and nervous because everything felt so real.

“During the wedding I was stressed. The first day that we were going to shoot I was freaking out. I remember I was just crying the whole time. I really felt like I was a bride. If it does happen in the future I don’t think I will be as nervous. I will be like ‘oh okay let’s do this.’ I won’t even flinch,” she shared.

The actress also revealed that despite her success in the entertainment industry, she never formally studied acting. Lerato said she is currently studying BCom Law while continuing her acting career.
