While the men powered through a high-stakes Super Eight clash against India, the women opened their ODI series against Pakistan with an all-round display in an action packed cricket Sunday.
Global (23 February 2026) – For a few hours on Sunday, South African cricket fans had two tabs open. In Ahmedabad, the Proteas men were locked into a high-stakes T20 World Cup Super Eight clash against India. In Bloemfontein, the Proteas women were setting the tone in their ODI series against Pakistan.
Proteas Men
At the Narendra Modi Stadium, South Africa were tested early after choosing to bat. A couple of quick wickets meant the middle order had work to do. David Miller and Dewald Brevis rebuilt with intent. David’s attack blended power with precision. While Dewald once again showed his ability to step up on big occasions.
With the ball, the Proteas were disciplined and relentless. Marco Jansen set the tone before Corbin Bosch and Keshav Maharaj applied pressure. With fixtures against West Indies and Zimbabwe still to come, the pathway to the semifinals is firmly in their hands.

Proteas Women
Earlier in the day at Mangaung Oval, the Proteas women produced a stunning performance to open their ODI series against Pakistan.
After rain reduced the match to 41 overs a side, South Africa were asked to bat first. Laura Wolvaardt provided stability at the top, but it was Sune Luus and Sinalo Jafta who transformed a steady innings into a commanding one.
Sinalo, who was playing her 50th international delivered a maiden ODI half-century in a late surge that pushed the total. Captain Laura Wolvaardt was pleased with her side’s performance.
“There was some great work up front from Sune with the bat and then Jaffie (Jafta) with that quickfire cameo at the end there. So a bit of an all-round performance and very happy to take the points.”
Having already secured the T20I series 2-1, the Proteas women now carry that confidence into the remainder of the ODI series.
