Kaizer Chiefs: Goodbye to Sirino and five other players?

Gaston Sirino has not had the best of seasons with Kaizer Chiefs, and with his contract ending in June, he is unlikely to get a new deal.

With just over a month remaining until the end of the 2025/26 Betway Premiership season, Kaizer Chiefs are set to make tough decisions on players like Sirino.

The biggest question is whether the club will keep their co-coaches, Khalil Ben Youssef and Cedric Kaze, for next season. They have had a good campaign and might finish third, which would earn a CAF Confederation Cup spot.

If they are kept for another season, a number of players will no doubt be released. One of them is Sirino. At 35, he has not made much of an impact this campaign, netting only once in 24 appearances across all competitions.

Against Polokwane City, Sirino was given a rare run but did not change much. Coach Kaze said the players have a lot of potential and that competition is good among the squad, with everyone working hard to earn their chance.

Sirino’s contract expires in June, and he will unlikely get a new deal unless he plays a huge role in upcoming matches against Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates.

Other players likely to leave after June are Fiacre Ntwari, George Matlou, Ashley Du Preez, Reeve Frosler and Thabo Cele.

Frosler and Cele have not been used much under the co-coaches this season. At right-back, Chiefs have preferred either Dillan Solomons or Thabiso Monyane. In midfield, Siphesihle Ndlovu, Lebohang Maboe and Sibongiseni Mthethwa have often been preferred, with Cele making way in the second half. He could leave this season, especially if the coaches stay.
