South African actress Thuso Mbedu has given fans an exciting behind-the-scenes look at her upcoming movie Children of Blood and Bones, sharing a glimpse into the making of the highly anticipated film.
The actress took to social media to share a video showing what went on behind the scenes during the filming of the movie, which was shot in South Africa. The footage gives fans a closer look at the production process, including the costumes, makeup, hair, and the detailed work that went into creating the appearance of each character.
The behind-the-scenes video also gives viewers a look at the actors involved in the project, as well as the film’s director and production designer. Thuso appeared excited to be part of such a major production and opened up about what the experience means to her.
In the video, Thuso says, “I’m super excited being part of something as big as this.”
Thuso Mbedu and the rest of her cast members recently attended an exclusive trailer launch event in New York, where they celebrated the upcoming release of the highly anticipated film.
During the launch, Thuso Mbedu shared her excitement about being featured in such a big movie alongside an incredible group of actors. Reflecting on her journey and the opportunity, she said, “I’m still processing how I feel this is suppose to remain as a dream but now it’s a reality. This is not something I was supposed to be able to achieve considering where I come from. We will continue to strive for better in the film industry.”
The film is directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood and is based on the bestselling novel by Tomi Adeyemi. It tells the story of a young woman named Zelie, played by Thuso Mbedu, who goes on a mission to bring back the magic that was taken from her people by a powerful ruler.
Set in a mythical African kingdom, the story follows Zelie and her brother Tzain, played by Tosin Cole, as they join forces with Princess Amari, played by Amandla Stenberg, and Prince Inan, played by Damson Idris. Together, they fight against the rule of King Saran on a journey filled with danger, courage, and hope.
The movie also features a star-studded cast that includes Regina King, Idris Elba, Cynthia Erivo, and Viola Davis. The film marks Thuso Mbedu’s second time working with Viola Davis, who plays Mama Agba.
Children of Blood and Bones will be in theatres on Friday, 15 January 2027, giving audiences the chance to see Thuso take on the highly anticipated role of Zelie in what promises to be a major cinematic moment.
