South African actress Ama Qamata is celebrating a major career moment after attending the international premiere of her latest film, Fight Like A Girl, in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The film was showcased on 7 and 8 March in Kinshasa, where it brought together government officials, creatives, and members of the public for a special celebration of African storytelling.

In Fight Like A Girl, Qamata takes on the role of Safi, a young Congolese woman whose life takes a dramatic turn. The 2024 boxing drama is based on true events and tells the story of Safi’s journey after escaping forced labour in an illegal mineral mine. She finds safety and a new sense of purpose through an all-women’s boxing club in Goma. Through this journey, the film explores themes of courage, survival, and the strength of women who refuse to give up.
Taking to Instagram, Qamata expressed her excitement and appreciation for the warm reception she received in Kinshasa. She said, “Kinshasa, you owe me nothing.
