Currency News and Scrolla.Africa have joined forces to launch Sharp Sharp, a new weekly podcast on what’s really going on in South Africa. Two of the country’s most respected newsrooms. One conversation. Every week.
At the helm are Rob Rose and Zukile Majova. Rob is the co-founder of Currency News and former editor of the Financial Mail, where he spent eight years growing the publication while winning nearly every major journalism award in the country, including the Taco Kuiper Award for investigative journalism and South African Financial Journalist of the Year. He is also the author of Steinheist, the definitive account of South Africa’s biggest corporate fraud.
Zukile is Scrolla.Africa’s political editor and one of South Africa’s sharpest voices on ANC politics, a multiple Mondi Award winner with roots in investigative journalism at the Mail and Guardian and community radio across KwaZulu-Natal and the Eastern Cape.
Episode one, Sharp Sharp Donald, is out now. Rob and Zuks get into Trump’s war on Iran and what R28.85 a litre diesel means for ordinary South Africans, Ramaphosa’s investment conference and the two trillion rand question, the fascinating poll showing 47% of ANC voters want Patrice Motsepe to lead the party, and why the president simply cannot fire his police minister even when he knows he should.
