THE FUSE

Hundreds of people are expected to gather at the Castle of Good Hope in Cape Town on Saturday for the 78th commemoration of Nakba Day. The annual global event marks the mass displacement and dispossession of Palestinians during the 1948 war around the creation of the Israeli state. The organisers of the Cape Town event, the Palestine Solidarity Campaign, have condemned Israel’s ongoing violent attacks in Gaza and have called on the South African government to impose harsh sanctions against Israel. Saturday’s event will feature music, speeches and exhibitions.
