Just as the human body is physiologically incapable of enduring in a physical vacuum deprived of oxygen and basic biological nourishment, it appears that the human psyche is equally incapable of functioning within an existential vacuum stripped of purpose and meaning. Physical life depends on a continuous intake of nutrients to stave off systemic organic failure; in precisely the same manner, our cognitive and emotional faculties require an overarching narrative framework to sustain internal equilibrium.
