According to the attorney-turned former professional, the Soweto giants have the playing personnel but lack a head coach of the required standard. Kaizer Chiefs defender Siboniso Gaxa has offered blunt comments on the Amakhosi technical team.

The outspoken former right-back believes the conversation around Amakhosi often misses a key point.

Kaizer Chiefs have shown flashes of quality this season, including competitive displays against top sides in the Betway Premiership. However, inconsistency has remained a concern, especially in matches where results have slipped despite promising performances.

Gaxa argues that the issue is not necessarily the players on the pitch, but what is happening off it. In his view, the squad has enough talent to compete with the likes of Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns when everything clicks.

The former Bafana Bafana international feels that the missing piece lies in leadership from the bench, suggesting that the current setup has yet to fully unlock the team’s potential.

“Listen man, you must remember, I keep saying this, for some reason, people sometimes say Siboniso is speaking negatively about Chiefs, I will keep saying this, Chiefs do have players who can compete with Pirates and Sundowns,” Gaxa said on Apex Sports International YouTube Channel, as quoted by Thato Basoga.

“I will keep saying this, Chiefs have players that can win the league, and they will show us again when they play Sundowns that they can compete at that level (but) until they get coaches or a coach that will elevate them slightly higher so that they can win things now.

“They did well (in the derby) the coaches but they are not head coaches, they are co-coaches, they are just there for the interim because the head coach was fired and we need to be honest about that, Chiefs need a coach, they have co-coaches who came with the head coach, unless Chiefs come and say they are permanent, then it’s a different story,” Gaxa added.
