Elias 2-24 b Is the Youngest Known Planet, and It Grew Faster Than Standard Models Predict

Earth is about 4.5 billion years old. Elias 2-24 b, a giant planet about 450 light-years away, is less than 1 million years old, which makes it at least 4,500 times younger. In a study published Sept. 16 in The Astrophysical Journal Letters, astronomers confirmed it as the youngest known planet. It is still growing inside the disk of gas and dust around its star.
