Manchester City lifted the Carabao Cup with a 2-0 win over Arsenal on Sunday, thanks to a Nico O’Reilly double. Meanwhile, the Premier League top five and survival races intensified.

Kepa Arrizabalaga’s error proved costly for the Gunners, who saw their quadruple hopes dashed, with the result handing Pep Guardiola a record fifth League Cup triumph.

The pause at the top of the Premier League table did not affect proceedings elsewhere on the log.

Liverpool’s fight for a Champions League place suffered a setback as they lost 2-1 at Brighton, with Danny Welbeck scoring twice.

Chelsea also slipped up, losing 3-0 at Everton, allowing teams like Brentford and Fulham to close in on the top five.

Aston Villa opened up their gap in fourth with a 2-0 win over Aston Villa while Manchester United’s 2-2 draw at Bournemouth means they are now just a point clear of Villa.

Tottenham’s relegation fears deepened after a 3-0 loss to Nottingham Forest, while Burnley lost 3-1 away to Fulham.

All eyes will now turn to the international break before FA Cup and Champions League quarter finals take centre stage in the first week of April.
