Players on the move: Join Razeen Gutta for a weekly roundup of all the biggest deals taking place around South Africa and Europe.

Tottenham Hotspur have completed the signing of Savinho from Manchester City, while Omar Marmoush is also closing in on a move to North London as Spurs continue their summer spending spree.

Europe

Savinho has joined Spurs for an initial £75 million (± R1.7 billion), with a further £10 million (± R230 million) potentially due in add-ons.

The 22-year-old Brazilian has signed a long-term deal with Tottenham after making 84 appearances for City since joining from Girona.

His City teammate Marmoush could soon follow him to London, with Spurs in advanced talks for the Egyptian forward.

According to GOAL, Marmoush is set to join on an initial loan with an obligation to buy that could reach £50 million (± R1.1 billion), with the forward having already agreed personal terms.

The potential double swoop has opened the door to another intriguing transfer, with both Tottenham and City now showing interest in Liverpool forward Cody Gakpo.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Spurs have been interested in the Dutchman for some time, while City have now also entered the race.

Liverpool are unlikely to sanction his departure unless they can bring in further attacking reinforcements first.

City have also completed the signing of Allan from Palmeiras.

The 22-year-old Brazilian joins for a fee in the region of £34 million (± R780 million) after making 96 appearances for the club.

The Manchester club have also completed the signing of Ayyoub Bouaddi from Lille with the 18-year-old midfielder having already completed his medical with the transfer worth £85 million (± R1.9 billion).

Over at Liverpool, the Reds remain determined to strengthen their attack before the transfer window closes.

Yankuba Minteh initially emerged as a target, with Liverpool seeing two bids rejected by Brighton. According to TalkSport, the latest offer was worth £60 million (± R1.4 billion), but Brighton value the Gambian significantly higher.

The Reds are also still pursuing Paris Saint-Germain pair Bradley Barcola and Ibrahim Mbaye, with the club continuing to explore options before the window closes.

Meanwhile, Arsenal could be preparing one of the biggest moves of the window.

According to Sky Sports, the Gunners are ready to make a £130 million (± R3 billion) push for Atletico Madrid striker Julian Alvarez as Mikel Arteta looks to add another world-class attacking option to his squad.

South Africa

Closer to home, reigning champions Orlando Pirates have confirmed that midfielder Patrick Maswanganyi has completed a move abroad.

The 28-year-old has joined Bahrain Premier League side Alkhaldiya Sports Club after leaving the Buccaneers following a successful spell at the club.

Maswanganyi leaves Pirates having played an important role in their 2025/26 campaign, with the Soweto giants going on to be crowned champions.

Meanwhile, the continued absence of Thabang Matuludi at Polokwane City has fuelled speculation over the right-back’s future.

According to KickOff, Rise and Shine are involved in transfer talks with two unnamed clubs in the PSL over the 27-year-old, who is regarded as one of the country’s best full backs.

Matuludi has not featured for Polokwane since the start of the season. New head coach Willy Moloto previously insisted that there was nothing sinister behind his absence following their draw against Stellenbosch.

However, with transfer talks now reportedly taking place, Matuludi’s future at the club remains one to watch.
