Expressions of gratitude are among the most prosocial of all possible interpersonal behaviors. Yet, people in close relationships sometimes can take their partners for granted. Jodie and Amelia are constantly switching off on childcare duties, a partnership that usually works out fine. However, Amelia is feeling lately that the lion’s share of the work is falling to her due to Jodie’s recent promotion. She’s be willing to keep this up for the time being if only Jodie would say “thanks” every now and then.
