Foreign stars help Kaizer Chiefs academy products shine
The increasingly impressive Congolese marksman Glody Lilepo looks the part up top. The 28-year-old, who was signed primarily as a right winger, has four goals and three assists in the league. It’s not the most prolific return, but with the support of a youthful attacking midfield trio, he’s a decent short-term option. Duba and Vilakazi scored against Magesi, Lilepo claimed an assist, and Lilepo was the only goal-scorer against Durban City. In a 4-1 beating of Magesi, Khanyisa Mayo got himself on the score sheet. So did Duba, Flavio Silva and Shabalala. Silva has seven goals in the league from just 16 appearances, a superb return from the Portugal-born star. His effectiveness as a super-sub seems to have given Chiefs’ younger attackers more confidence when they start games.
With five wins on the bounce, Kaizer Chiefs are a formidable force right now. Their next challenge is away to Polokwane City on Saturday, 18 April. Kickoff is at 17:30. The match will show on SuperSport Channel 202. There’s no reason to expect big changes from the management team.
