The 20-year-old Sundowns left-back is expected to travel to France this week after completing his medical tests.
The deal will initially see Sibiya join Lille on loan, with the French club holding an option to make the move permanent.
THATO SIBIYA SET FOR EUROPEAN MOVE
Sundowns have reportedly approved the move as they look to give Sibiya the opportunity to continue his development in one of Europe’s top football environments.
The youngster came through Panoroma FC before a move to the Sundowns academy. He quickly caught attention with his energy, work rate and quality deliveries from the left flank.
His performances in the DStv Diski Challenge helped him earn recognition at international level.
Sibiya became an important member of the South Africa U20 side, Amajita, and played a key role in their successful 2025 U20 Africa Cup of Nations campaign.
He later represented South Africa at the FIFA U20 World Cup in Chile.
FROM MAMELODI SUNDOWNS TO LIGUE 1
Sibiya’s progress eventually earned him promotion to the Sundowns first team in January 2026 under coach Miguel Cardoso.
The young defender made four senior appearances across all competitions last season. He also travelled with the senior squad to Morocco for the CAF Champions League final, gaining valuable experience around the club’s biggest stars.
However, competition for the left-back position at Chloorkop has limited his opportunities during the early stages of the 2026/27 season.
That opened the door for a move to France. LOSC Lille will offer Sibiya the chance to develop in a highly competitive European environment while continuing his progression.
For Sundowns, the move could provide their young defender with the regular exposure needed to take his career to another level.
For Sibiya, the next chapter will begin in Ligue 1 as he looks to establish himself in European football.
