Amapiano singer Mlindo the Vocalist has found himself at the centre of a controversial booking dispute following his failure to pitch for a gig in Polokwane, Limpopo, in November 2025. The incident has sparked serious allegations involving flamboyant businessman Solomon “My Sol” Madibela, who is accused of allegedly holding the artist and his team against their will — a claim My Sol has strongly denied.

According to WhatsApp messages seen by Daily Sun, Mlindo had been booked to perform at a brand activation event hosted at popular Polokwane venue Cofi on 16 November. When the artist failed to arrive at his scheduled performance time, event organiser Tshepo Monamodi reached out to Mlindo’s manager, Trevor Yende, to find out what had gone wrong.

In the exchange, Trevor allegedly explained that Mlindo and his team were booked for another performance in Hartebeespoort by My Sol and were unable to leave the venue. He claimed their vehicle had been blocked by other cars, preventing them from exiting the premises. Concerned by the situation, Tshepo suggested contacting the police and even arranged for an advocate who was waiting at the Hartebeespoort Police Station to assist with laying charges.

“What’s the address and location? Hartebeestpoort Police Station. The advocate is ready,” Tshepo texted, urging immediate action. However, despite the urgency, Trevor allegedly stopped responding. He later claimed that his cellphone had been confiscated by security, which prevented further communication.

In a follow-up message, Trevor apologised for missing the Polokwane gig, stating: “They ended up taking my phone with his security because they felt like I was a nuisance as we wanted to leave. They handed over my phone around 11.30pm, as we also had to be at Cosmopolitan at 1.30am.”

Tshepo later sent a formal email accusing Mlindo and his management of causing serious reputational and financial damage. He demanded a response by 5 December and threatened legal action, claiming the R20,000 performance fee was never refunded. He also revealed plans to sue, saying the incident forced them to cancel four future bookings with the artist.

“Despite being paid in full for this engagement, your non-appearance, coupled with the absence of an apology or any reasonable explanation, has resulted in significant reputational and financial damage to the venue (Cofi Polokwane), our client and our company,” he wrote.

“We had planned to book him for four more events, but we had to drop him because of his unprofessional behaviour. We are going to sue him for damages, including the R20 000 we paid, which was never refunded after he failed to pitch for the show,” he said.

When contacted, Trevor said he could not remember what happened in Hartebeespoort and dismissed further questions. Meanwhile, My Sol outright denied the allegations, stating that neither he nor his staff ever prevented Mlindo from leaving. “Neither I nor anyone in my employ, at any stage, prevented Mlindo from leaving after his performance at my farm. Any statement to the contrary is simply untrue,” he said.

Promoter Sbu Diamond also weighed in, accusing Mlindo and Trevor of lying to protect their image. “No one stopped them. Why didn’t they go to the police when they were asked to?” he questioned.

As conflicting versions of events continue to surface, the matter remains unresolved, leaving Mlindo’s reputation and future bookings hanging in the balance.
