Betraying the poor: SASSA fires 14 Eastern Cape officials over social grants fraud

The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has dismissed 14 employees in the Eastern Cape after investigations uncovered widespread fraud and corruption involving the administration of social grants, in a move aimed at restoring public confidence in one of the country’s most critical social support systems.
