By now, we are all acutely aware of the brewing situation in Venezuela and the fact that the US has begun bombing the country. US President Donald Trump has even bragged about having kidnapped Nicolas Maduro, the President of Venezuela. This is all coming after we were sold on the message that Donald Trump would be an anti-war president who would work tirelessly to try and end the various wars and conflicts that have been plaguing the world in the last several years. Not only has Trump consistently shown that this was a total lie, but he has potentially ignited a new major war with Venezuela.

Perhaps one of the most bizarre aspects of all of all this is how just two days ago, at the dawn of the New Year, Donald Trump declared that his New Year’s resolution was peace on earth. I must say that this was a rather shocking resolution for him to make, as he couldn’t even make it two days before absolutely shattering his promise. These attacks on Venezuela and the apparent capture of their leader are surely an act of war if nothing else, what else could such actions be if not war?

To those of us on the left, seeing Trump and the US strike Venezuela in the manner they have is not at all surprising. Trump and the neocons at the head of the Republican Party have been pushing…
