Galston Anthony Shares Throwback With Cassper Nyovest & Maggz As He Announces Mayoral Ambitions. Aspiring Johannesburg mayoral candidate Galston Anthony has opened up about his long-standing ties to South Africa’s entertainment industry, sharing a reflective post about his journey from behind-the-scenes music influence to public service.
Anthony recently posted a throwback picture featuring South African hip-hop stars Cassper Nyovest and Maggz during a 2012 studio session for the song “Bombelela.” According to Anthony, the moment carried deep personal significance because it represented years of unseen work in the music business.
In his lengthy statement, Anthony revealed that by 2012, he had already spent eight years in the entertainment industry, largely operating behind the scenes rather than in the spotlight. He described his role as “quiet” and “strategic,” saying he focused on learning the business, building relationships, and understanding how the industry functioned internally.
Anthony admitted that when he struggled to fully establish himself as a front-facing artist, he chose not to walk away from the industry. Instead, he repositioned himself into what he described as a role of influence rather than visibility.
The post also addressed public questions about his recent emergence in political conversations. Anthony argued that he had never suddenly “appeared,” insisting he had always been active, though not widely visible to the public.
Shifting focus to politics, Anthony confirmed that he is officially campaigning to become mayor of the City of Johannesburg. He said his experiences within entertainment and media had prepared him for the realities of public scrutiny and political narratives.
Anthony further claimed to understand how public perception is shaped in politics, stating that narratives and identity-based propaganda often collapse when challenged by “truth and time.” He also expressed confidence in the strength of his internal influence and experience, noting that being underestimated is something he has faced throughout his career.
Ending his message with a firm declaration, Anthony stated that he is now “fully visible” and “fully intentional” as he enters the political arena, adding that he is “here to stay” regardless of criticism.
