Man Safely Rescues Tiny Kitten, Carries Her to SPCA in Shopping Bag

A tiny calico kitten found safety and a second chance after a stranger carried her through the shelter doors in a shopping bag.

Durban, South Africa (03 March 2026) – If you look closely enough, there are always small moments that remind you that people still choose kindness.

Last week, the Kloof and Highway SPCA shared a heartwarming story. A man walked through their doors holding a Woolworths shopping bag tightly against his chest. He explained that he had done everything he could to catch the tiny kitten inside and bring her somewhere safe. He wasn’t sure what would happen next. He only knew she needed help.

The Admission Supervisor and resident Kitten Carer, Petros Ntuli, carefully took the bag. It shifted slightly in his hands, and when he gently opened it, two wide yellow eyes looked back at him. Curled inside was a delicate little calico kitten, visibly shaken from the ordeal.

Although she appeared calm, Petros could feel how fast her tiny heart was beating. Without hesitation, he lifted her out and held her close, offering the quiet reassurance only steady hands can give. Slowly, she began to settle.

Once she seemed a little more at ease, she was placed her in a warm kennel lined with a soft blanket.

The team named her Monday, seeing that the start of that week brought an unexpected reminder of kindness.
