A new SARS lifeline for diesel users in South Africa will help cushion the blow of the 2026 fuel crisis. Diesel prices, in particular, spiked significantly with Middle East conflict in February 2026. A R7 increase per litre in April 2026 was softened by government’s R3 fuel-levy reduction. However, latest indicators suggest another R7 to R10 increase is likely in May 2026.
