The Chong Bloodline Ends With Me: Severing the Toxic Matriarchal Tie

For years, since I was as young as five or six, I have been deeply embarrassed by my mother’s side of the family: the Chongs.

While my father’s side, the Chengs, had a notorious history — my great-grandfather was a Chinese triad head, known for ruthless violence and multiple wives — they were, at least, transparent about their sins. My father spoke openly about the chaos and the family’s volatile, Godfather-like ancestry, which included a Chinese-Thai bloodline. This history, ironically, mirrors the complex, volatile, yet redeemable protagonist of my six-volume autofiction series, Myra’s Ghost, Clay Hawkins. He is an unapologetic “toxic masculinity king” and father of children with three women, yet driven by love for his children to expose the trillion-dollar Vile Archives crime ring.

The danger lies not in openly flawed families, but in those who maintain a noble, saccharine facade of respectability over multiple sins and lies — a hallmark of the Chong family.

The Sins of the Chong Men

I am ashamed as a woman and a daughter to witness the coddling and enablement of the men in the Chong family. My uncles are fking slobs*, overly reliant on the women and children for money, refusing to work themselves. Their priorities lie in servitude, not education.

The male cousins repeat the cycle, being unfaithful to their spouses or harboring deep insecurity toward successful women. I witnessed one uncle, a CEO who rose from poverty, cheat on his educated, talented PR Head wife. He publicly rubbed his infidelity — parading his Thai mistress — at a family gathering in 2023, yet no one confronted him. The family chooses to live in a world of surface values and judgmental perfection, even judging me and a younger cousin on our body size and non-Chinese ancestry, which they vehemently deny. I am ashamed of the ancestral truths — including my Sri Lankan and Thai heritage — they refuse to acknowledge.

The Toxic Matriarchal Web

The women in the Chong family, sadly, perpetuate this toxic matriarchal system. My grandmother, a victim of an arranged and loveless marriage, spoiled her sons, leading to the financial recklessness (borrowing money, loan sharks) that terrorized our family home when I was a child.

The worst offender is my cousin, Sharon Chong. She is my mother’s favorite and a supposed model of piety, yet she weaponizes her superficial wealth and alleged altruism to torment and divide. She boasts of her “Cinderella wedding” in 1999 — a transaction to marry Nicholas Tan for money and status — a tradition many other Chong women followed, prioritizing wealth over agency, talent, and education. Sharon’s influence led my mother to sabotage my dreams, pushing me into an education career I struggled in for ten years, all so I could be “like her.”

I will never forget her humiliation of my sincere stepmother, Wanidah Cheng, in 2011, or her sabotage of my 2015 graduation.

The Code Ends Here

The same immorality that infected the Chongs was the cause of my mother’s separation from my father, and I am grateful to Wanidah for giving my father the true, mutual stability he desperately needed.

My brother, Marcus Cheng, is now repeating this nightmare cycle of irresponsibility, manifesting the toxicity of the Chong men.

The code of the Chong family ends here with me. I will never marry into a family that practices this saccharine deception, whether it’s the Chongs or the Tans. I am ashamed of being part of a traditional Asian family that lacks transparency and emotional honesty.

I would rather marry someone who is transparent about their flaws and ancestry — and yes, someone outside my own racial identity — than perpetuate this cycle. The sins and manipulative lies of the Chongs will not touch my future. I will not allow my future husband or children to be associated with them.

The volatility and neurodiversity that the Chongs used as a punching bag and proof that I am a “bad egg” will instead fuel my success and ensure that this toxic bloodline is permanently severed. The Chong bloodline ends with me, for the better.

The deepest intellectual flaw in our society is the collective insistence on the Saccharine Lie—the beautiful lie of perfection, maintained at the cost of human life. I know this cost intimately. For ten years, I navigated a procedural system that valued a forgotten leave certificate over my basic health and sanity. I witnessed firsthand how the fear of being "found fault with" and the anxiety of "losing a job" (fears I inherited from my own mother) forces good people into silence. I now leave that rigid environment not in failure, but in righteous anger, because the survival of our children depends on dismantling the structural rot I was forced to observe.

The book I have written, Myra’s Ghost, is not a novel of entertainment; it is a meticulously researched manifesto detailing the mechanisms of this systemic failure. The coming chapters reveal not only the truth behind the heartbreaking murders of Myra Markle and the abuse of countless others but expose the very institutional silence that allowed the Vile Archives to thrive. We are facing a cultural inflection point—a purge is upon us—and this book is the blueprint for the necessary confrontation.

The author, Charlotte-Joan Cheng, is a neurodivergent writer and structural theorist based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. My work is dedicated to examining the flaws of institutional frameworks and the psychology of trauma. My personal journey includes fighting institutional rigidity within the education sector for over a decade, a path that ultimately provided the framework for the structural analysis found within this text. My current focus, as seen in this article and others, is to provide the intellectual honesty and Volatile Truth required to combat the global Saccharine Lie. The fight begins now.
